MAKÁÁ, meaning “fire” in Swahili, is conceived around the essence of the ember: warmth, ritual and transformation. Located on the rooftop of Thompson Madrid x Hyatt, the project reinterprets the atmosphere of an ancient Mediterranean patio through a tactile and immersive spatial experience.

Inspired by the beauty of time and imperfection, the space is shaped through warm lighting, handcrafted ceramics, weathered wood, natural stone and soft translucent textures. Fire becomes the conceptual heart of the project — not literally, but emotionally — guiding the palette, the atmosphere and the sensory experience of the space.

Layered curtains, mirrors, intimate seating areas and filtered light create a sequence of spaces designed to feel atmospheric, sensual and deeply human. More than a restaurant, MAKÁÁ was imagined as a place of encounter: a rooftop where warmth, materiality and light come together to create an atmosphere that lingers long after the visit.
